The side effect of eating garlic is becoming healthier, garlic is VERY heart healthy. Helps in lowering blood preasure, cholesterol (LDL), and triglycerides (Please be cautious if you are taking garlic supplements and blood thinners such as aspirin and warfarin at the same time. Garlic supplements will further thin your blood...).
Some studies have suggested that Garlic is also benificial in preventing many types of cancer such as breast, colon, stomach and prostate cancers to name a few.

*correction at the bottom*

Garlic is fine for humans but can cause a certain type of hemolytic anemia in dogs (feel free to Google it).
I know farmers have used it for years with their goats and other animals but I wouldn’t put too much garlic (either the supplement or cooked garlic) on their food or use it for very long.

There are probably other safer natural alternatives for keeping fleas/ticks off of your pet. Read the pet food labels to see how much garlic is in there if you use one of those.

That goes for onions, too. They have a weaker amount of the same chemical that garlic has.
