My family and I put in a row (shelterbelt) of these bushes in 2006, and they are producing lots of fruit this year, 2011. We got them from the Sask. PFRA program. Thansk for the recipe. I will use it this year for sure!

We planted buffalo berry bushes about 10 years ago. They only started producing an abundance of berries last year. I made buffalo berry jam. My family loves it. We purchased twig starters through our extention office. They offer a number of trees & bushes as a conservation service. A friend of ours tried the jam & loved it. He makes his own wine and is asking for berries from our bushes. He says his grandmother used buffalo berries all the time and he'd like to try them in his wine production. We're excited to provide him with this special ingredient that his grandmother thought so much of.

David, buffaloberries sometimes dont fruit for several years unfortunately, most sites i have found say 3-4 years from seed, so depending on the age of your shrub you may not get fruit for a year or two. However, one can often find these shrubs growing virtuually anywhere - i have a spot near my house that hase several large fruiting shrubs, along with 6 giant patches of black raspberry/thimbleberry. If you go hiking take some containers and a fieldguide to finding some delicious berries.

I have 3 bushes started now in my front yard. I'm anxious to see some actual fruit, perhaps this fall? I ordered one more bush this spring for good measure.

Someone else loves these berries! Yahoo! you can buy Buffalo Berry seedlings in Canada for a reasonable price. Try the Alberta Shelterbelt program or the PFRA in Saskatchewan. Very few people eat them, but they are actually a superfruit that hasn't been discovered yet.

Glad to know you can make syrup without using pectin.
I was a little concerned about the outcome of processing as the berries have a milky tone.

I'm very happy to find that someone has an interest in this fruit. I am seeking resources to order buffalo berry plants. Thus far I've found only one seed company with limited supply. Do you know any supplier(s)?
