I have some cast iron in my kitchen that has been rescued from a thrift store.  When I got it, it was a horrible rusty mess.  What many people don't understand is that rust is not permanent on your cast iron, you CAN save it, bring it back, and turn that rusty pan into the best non-stick skillet you'll ever have.

Forget Teflon that nicks and scratches, forget having to use copious amounts of oil or pan spray to stop sticking - a properly cared for and seasoned cast iron pan is worth 20 Teflon pans, and that one pan will last DECADES longer.  My mom has a pan that I covet, I want it, I want it bad - it's 35 years old, and it has a beautiful cast iron patina that, while functional, my cast iron has not achieved yet.  I'll be patient and wait until that pan is mine (I've requested it, in writing, when she's ready to clean out her kitchen someday,) but until then I'll make due finding and rehabilitating my own cast iron cookware.

I shot a video the other day to show you all how to rehabilitate and care for your cast iron cookware - whether it's a dutch oven, a frying pan, a griddle or a skillet - every piece of cast iron can be cared for as described below!

Thanks for watching!
